At Northern Plains Laboratory, we believe everyone should have the power to take charge of their health. Our Direct Access Testing (DAT) services allow you to order lab tests without a doctor's referral, giving you fast, affordable, and confidential access to the information you need — when you need it.

What you need to know before choosing Direct Access?

  1. This testing is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for regular medical care.
  2. Some diseases will be reported as required by state law.
  3. Results will be sent directly to you as the patient, not your healthcare provider.
  4. You are responsible for seeking medical advice from a healthcare professional if you have questions or concerns on your results.
  5. Your health information will only be shared with the laboratory.
  6. You are responsible for any costs associated with this testing, insurance companies will not cover this testing.

Tests Available

General Wellness ($70)

A General Wellness Panel is a comprehensive set of blood tests designed to assess overall health. It includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC), Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), Lipid Panel, and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) test. Men's Health ($140)

A Men's Health Panel is a comprehensive blood test designed to assess various aspects of a man's health, particularly for conditions that commonly affect men as they age. This panel includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC), Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), Lipid Panel, Total Testosterone, Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) tests, and hemoglobin A1c. Women's Health ($140)

A Women's Health Panel is a comprehensive blood test designed to assess various aspects of a woman's health, particularly hormonal balance, cardiovascular health, and overall metabolic function. This panel typically includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC), Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), Lipid Panel, Progesterone, Iron and Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) tests, and Hemoglobin A1c. Immunity ($65)

The MMR panel is a group of blood tests used to detect immunity or active infection for the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) viruses. It can be used to assess immunity and as a screen before pregnancy.

Hepatitis B Screen ($45)

The HBsAb test checks for antibodies to the Hepatitis B virus, that may be from a past infection or from getting the Hepatitis B vaccine. Northern Plains Laboratory is required by law to report positive results for this test to the North Dakota Health and Human Services. Please be aware that you may be contacted by NDHHS as part of disease surveillance.

Complete Blood Count ($10)

A Complete Blood Count (CBC) is a common blood test used to evaluate your overall health, aides in the assessment of anemia, and provides information regarding your immune response to infection. The CBC test provides information on the three major types of cells in the blood Red Blood Cells (RBCs), White Blood Cells (WBCs), and Platelets (Plts).

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel ($15)

A Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) is a blood test that measures 14 different substances in your blood to provide information about your body's metabolism, kidney and liver function, electrolyte and fluid balance, and blood sugar levels.

Chlamydia & Gonorrhea Molecular ($60)

The Chlamydia & Gonorrhea test is a molecular diagnostic nucleic acid amplication test (NAAT) that uses transcription-mediated amplificaiton to detect RNA from Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG). Northern Plains Laboratory is required by law to report positive results for this test to the North Dakota Health and Human Services. Please be aware that you may be contacted by NDHHS as part of disease surveillance.

Drug Screen ($50)

A urine drug screen is a test that detects the presence of drugs or their metabolites in a urine sample. This screen will prove a positive or negative result for the following: amphetamine, barbiturate, benzodiazepine, cannabinoids, cocaine, and opiates.

Hepatitis C Antibody ($60)

The hepatitis C (HCV) antibody test (also known as the anti-HCV test) detects antibodies to the hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the blood, indicating past or current infection with the virus. This is the preferred test for screening at risk individuals. If positive, a quantitative HCV NAAT will be performed to confirm a HCV infection.

Liver Function Panel ($15)

A liver function panel is a blood test used to assess the health and function of your liver by measuring the levels of various enzymes, proteins, and substances in the blood.

Iron & Iron Binding Capacity ($25)

The Iron and Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC) tests are blood tests used to evaluate iron levels in the body. Iron measures the amount of total iron in the blood. TIBC reflects how well transferrin, a protein that transports iron, can carry iron in the blood.

Lipid Panel ($25)

The lipid panel (or lipid profile) is a blood test that measures the levels of various types of fats (lipids) in your blood. Components include total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and triglycerides.

Syphilis ($40)

The syphilis test (RPR) is a blood test used to screen for syphilis antibodies, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. If positive, a RPR titer will be performed and the sample sent to ARUP Laboratory for confirmation TP-PA testing.

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone ($20)

The thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test measures the level of TSH in the blood, which is produced by the pituitary gland and helps regulate thyroid hormone production. If TSH is below or above the age specific reference range, a Free T4 will be performed.

Urinalysis ($20)

The urinalysis test is a common test that examines a sample of urine to assess overall health and help diagnose a variety of conditions.

Anti-Mullerian Hormone ($45)

The anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) test is a blood test that measures the level of a hormone made by the small, developing follicles in the ovaries in females, or by certain testicular cells in males. It's primarily used for reproductive and fertility evaluation.

Cortisol ($25)

A cortisol test measures the level of cortisol, a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands, in your blood that plays a key role in the body's response to stress, metabolism, blood sugar regulation, and immune function.

C-Peptide ($20)

The C-peptide test measures the amount of C-peptide, a small protein your pancreas releases in equal amounts to the insulin it makes. This test is useful in determining how much insulin your own body is producing.

C-Reactive Protein ($15)

The C-reactive protein (CRP) test measures the amount of CRP produced by the liver when there is inflammation. It detects acute inflammation from infection, injury, or chronic inflammatory diseases.

CRP, High Sensitivity ($15)

The high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) test measure very small amounts of CRP to estimate log-grade inflammation linked to cardiovascular risk.

Estradiol ($40)

The total estradiol test measures the level of estradiol (E2), the primary form of estrogen in the body, which is produced mainly by the ovaries in females, in smaller amounts by the testes in males, and adrenal glands in both sexes.

Ferritin ($20)

The ferritin test measures the level of ferritin, a protein that stores iron in the body. It helps assess your body's iron reserves.

Folate ($20)

The folate test measures the level of folate (vitamin B9) in the blood, which is essential for red blood cell production, DNA synthesis, and overall cell health.

Follicle-Stimulating Hormone ($20)

Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays a key role in the reproductive system. In women, it evaluates fertility, menstrual irregularities, or menopause status by assessing ovarian function. In men, It assesses testicular funciton and sperm production.

Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase ($10)

The gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) test measures the level of GGT in the blood. GGT is an enzyme found mainly in the liver and bile ducts, and is used mainly as a liver function marker.

Glucose ($10)

The glucose test measures the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood, which is the body's main source of energy.

Pregnancy, Quantitative ($20)

The quantitative pregnancy test is a blood test that measures the exact amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), the hormone produced by the placenta shortly after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus.

Hemoglobin A1c ($15)

The hemoglobin A1c test (also known as A1c or Glycated Hemoglobin test) measures the average level of blood glucose over the past 2 to 3 months by assessing the percentage of glucose-bound hemoglobin in red blood cells.

HIV, Rapid Screen ($55)

The HIV screen checks for HIV, the virus that can cause AIDS. It can usually detect HIV within 2 to 4 weeks after exposure.

Lactate Dehydrogenase ($15)

The lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) test measures the amount of LDH, an enzyme found in almost all body tissues, in the blood. When cells are damaged or destroyed, LDH leaks into the bloodstream.

Luteinizing Hormone ($20)

The Luteinizing Hormone (LH) test measures the level of luteinizing hormone in the blood, which is produced by the pituitary gland and plays a key role in regulating the reproductive system. In women, it helps assess ovulation (release of an egg from the ovary) and monitor fertility treatments. LH levels surge right before ovulation. In men, It evaluates testicular function and sperm production.

Magnesium ($10)

The magnesium test measures the level of magnesium in your blood, which is an essential mineral involved in many bodily functions, including muscle and nerve function, bone health, and energy production.

Microalbumin ($25)

The microalbumin (MAB) test measures small amounts of albumin (a blood protein) in the urine. It is most often used to detect early kidney damage.

Phosphorus ($10)

The phosphorus test measures the level of phosphate in your blood. Phosphorus is an essential mineral that helps build bones and teeth, stores energy, and keeps muscles, nerves, and cells functioning normally.

Pregnancy, Urine ($15)

The urine pregnancy test detects human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced by the placenta shortly after implantation and is used to confirm pregnancy and monitor early pregnancy health. This test will give you a positive or negative result.

Progesterone ($20)

The progesterone test measures the level of progesterone, a hormone produced mainly by the ovaries after ovulation and by the placenta during pregnancy. In women it is used to evaluate fertility, confirm ovulation, monitor pregnancy health and assess menstrual irregularities.

Prolactin ($20)

The prolactin test measures the level of prolactin, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that stimulates breast milk production after childbirth. In women, it is used to evaluate causes of irregular periods, infertility, or unexpected milk production. In men, it is used to investigate low testosterone, infertility or breast enlargement.

Prothrombin Time ($15)

The prothrombin time (PT) test measures how long it takes your blood to form a clot. It evaluates the activity of certain clotting factors that work to stop bleeding. Additionally, it is used to monitor Coumadin therapy, evaluate liver function, and assess vitamin K status.

Prostate-Specific Antigen ($20)

The Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) screening test measures the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland, in the blood.

T4 (THYROXINE) FREE ($20)

A T4 (thyroxine) test is a blood test that helps diagnose thyroid conditions. T4 is a thyroid hormone, and too much or too little of it can indicate an issue with your thyroid.

Tuberculosis ($95)

The tuberculosis test is a blood test used to detect infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB). It is used to detect latent TB infections, aid in diagnosis of active TB, and as an alternative to the tuberculin skin test.

Triiodothyronine, Free ($10)

The free T3 test measures the level of triiodothyronine (T3) in the blood that is not bound to proteins, and is used to evaluate thyroid function.

Testosterone, Total ($20)

The total testosterone test measures the overall level of testosterone, a hormone produced primarily in the testes in men and in smaller amounts by the ovaries and adrenal glands in women.

Uric Acid ($10)

The uric acid (UA) test measures the level of uric acid in blood, a waste product formed when the body breaks down purines, which are substances found in certain foods and in body tissues. It is used to evaluate gout or risk of gout, assess kidney function, monitor certain medical conditions or treatments, and is often included as part of a metabolic evaluation.

Varicella Zoster Antibody ($10)

The varicella zoster antibody test is a blood test that detects antibodies against the varicella-zoster virus, the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles. The test is used to determine immunity, diagnosis past infection, and investigate a recent exposure.

Vitamin B12 ($20)

The Vitamin B12 test measures the level of Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) in the blood, which is essential for nerve function, red blood cell production, and DNA synthesis.

Vitamin D 25 ($30)

The Vitamin D test measures the level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the blood, which is crucial for calcium absorption, bone health, and immune system function.
